Prevention is key to public health: Mustafa Kamal

Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal Thursday said that prioritizing disease prevention is essential for building a strong and effective public health system in the country.
While speaking to a private news channel, he stated that without robust systems to protect citizens from illnesses, curative measures remain limited.
“Prevention is better than cure,” he added. He cautioned that constructing hospitals alone cannot address the nation’s health challenges.
The minister highlighted that the continuous population growth in Pakistan poses a serious challenge to the health sector.
He noted that vaccines against 13 preventable diseases are available, but despite government efforts, many people refuse immunization, reflecting misconceptions in public.Syed Mustafa Kamal further stressed the need for comprehensive measures to address health issues seriously.
Answering a question on Karachi, he said that the pressing need to properly manage Karachi, noting that the city faces multiple challenges requiring priority-based solutions.
The minister highlighted that water supply and sanitation problems in Karachi demand urgent attention to ensure the well-being of its residents.
