After Telenor Pakistan, PTCL Sets Sights on Acquiring a Digital Wallet

*ISLAMABAD:* Following its acquisition of Telenor Pakistan, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has set its sights on acquiring a majority stake in a leading digital wallet company, with its board approving the submission of a binding offer for a majority stake in an undisclosed target company.

According to *Business Recorder*, PTCL informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that its Board of Directors had approved the submission of a binding offer to acquire a majority stake in an undisclosed target company.

The company said the proposed transaction would be subject to several steps, including due diligence, successful negotiations, relevant regulatory approvals and execution of definitive agreements.

Although PTCL has not disclosed the name of the target company, market sources have speculated that the transaction could involve a well-known digital wallet company.

The development comes after PTCL’s acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and highlights the company’s broader strategy of expanding beyond traditional telecommunications into digital financial services and the fintech sector.

PTCL clarified that the proposed transaction remains at an early stage and its completion is subject to due diligence, negotiations and regulatory approvals. The terms of the transaction could also change before definitive agreements are signed.

The company has assured the Pakistan Stock Exchange that it will keep the market informed of any material developments regarding the proposed transaction.

If completed, the deal would mark a significant development in Pakistan’s telecommunications and digital financial services sectors and could further strengthen PTCL’s position in the country’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
