OGDCL Signs Agreement with Canadian Firm to Boost Heavy Oil Production
ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has signed an agreement with Canada’s Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. to deploy advanced Passive Energy Tool technology aimed at enhancing production from Pakistan’s heavy crude oil fields.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at OGDCL Headquarters in Islamabad. Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tariq Ali Khan attended the event as the chief guest, while OGDCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Hayat Lak was also present. Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. President and CEO Brian Herman participated virtually. Senior officials from OGDCL, the Canadian High Commission and Synergetic also attended the ceremony.
Under the agreement, Synergetic will introduce its Passive Energy Tool technology in OGDCL’s heavy oil wells to improve fluid flow in high-viscosity crude reservoirs. The technology is designed to enhance oil flow, reduce the frequency of well workovers, minimise production downtime, lower operating costs and decrease the use of production chemicals.

Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Hayat Lak said the partnership reflected OGDCL’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies to address production challenges in heavy oil reservoirs. He said the company was actively collaborating with leading global technology providers to maximise output from mature and technically challenging oil fields.
He expressed confidence that the new technology would significantly improve production efficiency while reducing workover requirements and operational costs.
Canadian High Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan highlighted the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Canada in the energy and critical minerals sectors. He expressed optimism that the introduction of the technology would contribute to the development of Pakistan’s upstream oil industry and strengthen the country’s energy sector.
According to OGDCL, the agreement is part of the company’s broader strategy to improve operational efficiency, increase domestic oil production and promote the sustainable development of Pakistan’s oil and gas sector through the adoption of innovative technologies and international partnerships.
