Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh Reviews BFC Islamabad First Year Performance Achievements

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Federal Minister for the Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh visited the Business Facilitation Centre (BFC) Islamabad to conduct a formal review of the institution’s first-year performance, its diverse business facilitation initiatives, and the strategic roadmap for future expansion. The RCCI President Usman Shaukat has often emphasized the need for such institutional frameworks to move beyond rhetoric and prioritize economic growth, a sentiment echoed by the government’s current efforts to refine domestic industrial policies.

Overview of Performance and Future Roadmap

During the visit, the Federal Minister received an exhaustive briefing on the services currently extended to investors and businesses, the progress of pending applications, and the trajectory of future service integration. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh remarked that the establishment of the BFC serves as a critical milestone in delivering integrated, efficient services under a unified platform. He underscored that under the administration of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the government continues to implement practical measures aimed at strengthening the national economy and enhancing the ease of doing business.

Statistical Milestones and Operational Success

Highlighting the achievements of the BFC since its inception on 20 August 2025, the Minister noted that the facility has demonstrated significant operational efficacy through 20 August 2026. During this period, the BFC received a total of 7,709 applications. Of these, 6,896 registrations, licenses, and permits were issued. Furthermore, 4,920 applications were processed within the mandated timelines, while 2,050 applications were addressed beyond the stipulated period, accompanied by expert consultation provided in 845 specific cases.

Promoting Investment and Employment Opportunities

The Minister stressed that the primary objective of these initiatives is to catalyze business activity and job creation. Through the support provided by the BFC, more than 4,100 new businesses were facilitated, investment exceeding Rs. 6.6 billion was successfully secured, and over 20,000 employment opportunities were supported. With a recorded annual footfall of 8,554 individuals, the centre saw peak activity in December 2025 and January 2026, reflecting growing investor confidence.

Regulatory Reforms and Ease of Doing Business

Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh stated that simplifying the regulatory landscape remains a top government priority. The Board of Investment is currently engaged in comprehensive reforms designed to eliminate redundant bureaucratic hurdles and excessive documentation that previously impeded growth. Such regulatory reform initiatives are essential for providing a competitive environment where both local and foreign investors can scale their operations. Reflecting on broader regional stability, the minister reiterated that economic security is essential, similar to how President Zardari appreciates Saudi Ambassador’s role in strengthening Pakistan-Saudi ties to ensure sustained financial inflows.

Staff Recognition and Future Commitment

During the site visit, the Federal Minister inspected the service desks of various ministries to observe current processing mechanisms firsthand. He interacted directly with departmental officers, directing them to ensure consistent, timely facilitation. To mark the anniversary, the Minister distributed Certificates of Appreciation to the staff and participated in a commemorative ceremony. He concluded by reaffirming that the Board of Investment remains steadfast in its mission to streamline procedures and foster a transparent, business-friendly environment across Pakistan.
