Iran Regime Change Plan Fails, Mossad Chief Removes Two Senior Officials

JERUSALEM: Mossad Director David Barnea has reportedly removed two senior intelligence officials following the failure of an alleged plan aimed at bringing about a change of government in Iran.

According to a report published by The Jerusalem Post, the officials removed from their positions headed Mossad’s Intelligence Directorate and its Iran Division. While their identities have not been disclosed, security sources said they may be reassigned to other roles within the agency as part of a broader organizational restructuring.

The report said the two officials had developed a covert plan for regime change in Iran, which was later presented to U.S. President Donald Trump. However, the proposal was never implemented due to various operational and political challenges. Mossad’s leadership reportedly believed that those responsible for the failed initiative should be held accountable.

According to the report, the plan envisioned Kurdish ground forces entering Iran with Israeli and U.S. air support, while ethnic minority groups inside the country would assist in efforts to overthrow the current Iranian leadership and establish an alternative government.

The Jerusalem Post further claimed that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was among the names considered as a possible figure in a post-regime political arrangement. However, the plan reportedly stalled at an early stage and was never put into operation.

The report added that the dismissal of the two senior officials is being viewed as part of a broader effort to reshape Mossad’s intelligence strategy on Iran and strengthen internal accountability. Israeli authorities have not issued an official statement on the matter.
