Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean Resigns, Joins Three Leading AI Experts to Launch “Discovery Loop”

SAN FRANCISCO: Google Chief Scientist and renowned artificial intelligence (AI) researcher Jeff Dean has resigned after 27 years with the company to co-found a new AI startup, “Discovery Loop,” alongside three other leading AI experts. The company aims to accelerate scientific and engineering research through advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Jeff Dean joined Google in 1999 and played a pivotal role in developing many of the company’s core technologies. He is widely recognized as one of the principal architects behind Google Search, MapReduce, TensorFlow, Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), Google Brain, and the company’s latest AI initiative, Gemini.

The founding team of Discovery Loop also includes senior Google engineer Sanjay Ghemawat, Google DeepMind researcher Oriol Vinyals, and Google Brain co-founder Quoc Le. Together, they are regarded as some of the world’s most influential researchers in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

According to the founders, Discovery Loop will develop advanced AI systems capable of automating scientific and engineering research, enabling researchers to conduct large-scale experiments, analyze vast amounts of data, and accelerate discoveries across multiple disciplines.

Reports indicate that the startup has secured backing from several leading venture capital firms, while Google’s parent company, Alphabet, is participating as both an investor and cloud computing partner.

Industry analysts describe the launch of Discovery Loop as a significant development in the global AI sector, noting that the founding team has been instrumental in shaping many of Google’s breakthrough technologies and is expected to drive the next generation of AI-powered scientific innovation.
