AJK Polls Deferred in Poonch and Plandri Due to Security Concerns, Voting to Continue in Bagh and Haveli

MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has postponed polling in the districts of Poonch and Plandri during the third phase of the general elections due to the prevailing law and order situation.

According to an Election Commission spokesperson, polling scheduled for August 10 will not be held in any constituency of Poonch and Plandri. However, voting will take place as scheduled on August 10 in three constituencies of Bagh district and one constituency of Haveli district.

The spokesperson said the decision to postpone the elections was taken in view of security concerns and requests submitted to the Election Commission by several political leaders and election candidates.

The Election Commission said that a new polling date and a revised election schedule for the affected constituencies will be announced later after reviewing the security situation and considering all relevant factors.

The spokesperson emphasized that the decision was made to ensure that elections are conducted in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful environment, enabling voters to exercise their democratic right without fear or intimidation.
