CUI Chinese PhD Scholar Defends Doctoral Thesis Through Online Examination
ISLAMABAD, August 10, 2026: Ms. Ma Yinghua, a Chinese PhD scholar in the Department of Computer Science, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Abbottabad Campus, successfully defended her doctoral thesis through an online examination conducted by the university.
The doctoral defence was held in accordance with CUI’s prescribed examination procedures and was attended by senior university officials, along with national and international examiners.
Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector, COMSATS University Islamabad, attended the defence, along with the Controller of Examinations, Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and Dean, Faculty of Information Science and Technology.
The examination panel included distinguished experts from Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (PAF-IAST), Edith Cowan University, Australia, and Politecnico di Torino, Italy.
Ms. Yinghua’s doctoral thesis, titled “A Deep Manifold Learning for Multi-Omics Data Integration and Analysis,” was supervised by Dr. Ahmad Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, CUI Abbottabad Campus.
The research focuses on the integration and analysis of multi-omics data, including genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, for cancer research. It applies deep manifold learning techniques to identify and model relationships among different types of biological data, with potential applications in cancer detection and classification, prognosis assessment and precision medicine.
During the defence, the scholar presented her research findings and responded to questions from the examination panel regarding the study’s methodology, results and academic contribution.
The successful defence highlights CUI’s commitment to maintaining rigorous standards in doctoral examinations while enabling the participation of national and international academic experts through appropriate online examination arrangements.
