President Zardari receives credentials of ambassadors-designate of Italy, South Korea

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday received the credentials of Ambassador-designate of Italy Ugo Ciarlatani and Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea Han Sungho at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

During his meeting with Ambassador Ugo Ciarlatani, the president expressed confidence that his tenure would contribute to further strengthening Pakistan-Italy relations.

President Zardari noted the steady growth in bilateral ties, particularly in trade and investment, with bilateral trade having crossed the US$1 billion mark. He also welcomed the signing of an agreement abolishing visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports.

The president appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-26 term. He also highlighted the important role of the Pakistani community in Italy as a bridge between the two countries.

During his meeting with Ambassador Han Sungho, President Zardari said Pakistan attached great importance to its multidimensional relationship with the Republic of Korea.

He expressed Pakistan’s desire to further expand bilateral trade and investment ties and noted the ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

The president also welcomed cooperation between Pakistan and South Korea in areas including climate change, development and defence.

He expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries in shipbuilding, technology and economic development would continue to grow.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and the Secretary Foreign Affairs were also present during the meetings.
