Imran Khan Alleges Solitary Confinement and Torture, Says Sister Dr Uzma

Islamabad, August 21: PTI founder Imran Khan complained of solitary confinement and alleged torture during his meeting with his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, who said he told her to inform everyone that he was being subjected to severe mistreatment.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Dr Uzma said she was summoned to Adiala Jail at around 8:30 p.m., from where she was taken in a vehicle. She said the area appeared like a forest along the way and, when she asked about their destination, she was told it was PIMS Hospital.

According to Dr Uzma, Imran Khan was present when they reached PIMS. She said he told the police personnel that his sister was meeting him after almost 10 months. Dr Uzma said she informed him that he was supposed to be taken to Shifa International Hospital for a comprehensive medical examination.

She said Imran Khan’s eyes were examined at PIMS and his blood pressure was also checked. According to Dr Uzma, a doctor administered an injection in one of his eyes, while she was repeatedly made to sit at different locations during the process.

Dr Uzma said Imran Khan told her that, according to a doctor, prolonged deprivation of human contact had affected his health and could also lead to hypertension. She said an injection was administered to one of his eyes while the other eye was covered with a bandage.

Dr Uzma said that while leaving PIMS, she asked whether Imran Khan was being taken to Shifa International Hospital, but no one gave her a clear answer. She said the Fajr call to prayer was being heard at the time and that they were subsequently taken back to Adiala Jail, where Dr Faisal Sultan also arrived in a separate vehicle.

She claimed that Imran Khan did not have a blood pressure problem but was experiencing severe anxiety. According to Dr Uzma, Imran Khan repeatedly told her that he had been subjected to severe mistreatment over the past 10 months and had been tortured.

Dr Uzma said Imran Khan also complained that he was not provided with television or reading material and was not allowed human contact. According to her, the television was switched off after being allowed for only two days.

Dr Uzma further said she had gone to Adiala Jail fully prepared in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order, but was treated as if she herself were a prisoner. She described Imran Khan’s overall health as satisfactory and said his blood pressure was 120/80 and that he appeared to be fit.
