RAWALPINDI (special crosspondent) – Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules, Chief of Defence of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, held a high-level meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. The discussions focused on enhancing strategic ties and solidifying security partnerships between the two nations.

Strengthening Bilateral Security Ties

Upon his arrival at the GHQ, Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules was accorded a formal welcome, where he was presented with a Guard of Honour by a well-disciplined contingent representing the tri-services of the Pakistan Army. Following the ceremonial protocols, the leadership engaged in detailed deliberations concerning regional security environments and the identification of new avenues for mutual defense collaboration.

Both military leaders expressed their satisfaction with the historically cordial and robust relationship shared between Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a tangible outcome of these talks, the two countries officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at broadening and deepening their cooperation in defense and security sectors. This agreement marks a significant step in formalizing military-to-military engagement, similar to other strategic partnerships recently fostered by Pakistani authorities, such as the Secretary-General ICC&D meeting with the Finance Minister to discuss broader economic and institutional cooperation.

High-Level Engagements and Recognition

Prior to his meeting with the Army Chief, the Congolese defence official held separate sessions with the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. These meetings underscored the comprehensive nature of the diplomatic outreach between the two states.

During these interactions, Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules commended the high standards of professionalism and the operational readiness displayed by the Pakistan Armed Forces. He specifically highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability. Furthermore, he acknowledged the significant advancements Pakistan has achieved in the fields of defense indigenization and self-reliance, noting that such progress serves as a model for developing nations seeking to modernize their security infrastructure while maintaining national sovereignty.
