Speaking at the conclusion of a five-day training programme on Civil, Commercial and Shariah-Integrated Mediation at the International Mediation and Arbitration Centre (IMAC), the Minister emphasized a strategic shift toward discouraging frivolous and baseless litigation to reduce the strain on the national judicial system.

Senator Tarar stated that the current litigation culture requires transformation, noting that unnecessary legal disputes significantly hinder the timely delivery of justice. Highlighting the legal complexities involved, he explained that while many litigants believe their claims are justified, final outcomes remain contingent upon admissible evidence, the burden of proof, and established legal principles. The Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with the Supreme Court of Pakistan, High Courts, and provincial governments, is currently pursuing comprehensive judicial reforms. Hon’ble Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the Supreme Court of Pakistan addressed the gathering, advocating for a broader shift toward mediation as a preferred alternative to litigation. He highlighted that the Supreme Court is actively referring cases to mediation and reinforcing its court-annexed system. He underscored the success of pro bono mediation efforts, which have resulted in mutually agreed settlement agreements.
