Major General Faisal Naseer appointed NACTA National Coordinator, key shift in counterterrorism coordination

Islamabad, September 4: The federal government has appointed Major General Faisal Naseer as the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for a three-year term on secondment, with the appointment taking effect immediately.

According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, the appointment was made with the approval of the federal government under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013. Major General Faisal Naseer has been appointed for three years on standard terms and conditions.

Major General Faisal Naseer has previously served as Director General Counter Intelligence at Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). His appointment to NACTA comes at a time when Pakistan continues to face serious security challenges, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

NACTA’s core role is to formulate national counterterrorism and counter-extremism strategies, monitor their implementation and strengthen coordination among federal and provincial institutions. The authority has also been assigned an important role in the implementation of the National Action Plan.

Against the backdrop of the prevailing security situation, Major General Faisal Naseer’s appointment is being viewed as an effort to further strengthen coordination among intelligence agencies, security institutions and the civilian administration in the country’s counterterrorism framework.
