LCCI and Lahore District Administration Collaborate to Boost City Economy

LCCI leadership and Lahore district officials meet to discuss the district economy and digital business facilitation.

LAHORE (Special Correspondent) – The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Lahore district administration have agreed to strengthen their collaboration to promote the district economy, facilitate the business community, improve the ease of doing business and create new opportunities for investment and employment. This strategic alignment was solidified during an awareness session on the Punjab government’s E-Biz Portal held at the LCCI premises on 14 October 2026.

Key Points

  • The LCCI and Lahore district administration aim to enhance the local economy and streamline digital business services.
  • Officials reviewed the Punjab government’s E-Biz Portal to reduce bureaucratic delays and simplify documentation processes.
  • LCCI proposed the “Invest Lahore” initiative to attract investment and maximize the city’s economic potential.
  • Participants emphasized the need for export-led growth strategies based on Lahore’s competitive industrial advantages.

The session was addressed by Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousaf, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz, LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar, Senior Vice President Sardar Usman Ghani, Vice President Chaudhry Khadim Hussain and Additional Director of the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) Haseeb Chaudhry. Attendees also included former LCCI Vice President Mian Zahid Javed and members of the LCCI Executive Committee. During the event, a detailed presentation was delivered to familiarize participants with digital facilitation services, which are designed to improve transparency and efficiency in the public sector.

Addressing Administrative Bottlenecks

Commissioner Nauman Yousaf remarked that the economic potential of Lahore requires seamless cooperation between the public and private sectors. He noted that entrepreneurs often face significant hurdles when dealing with multiple departments to obtain no-objection certificates (NOCs), registrations, and various licenses. Commissioner Yousaf asserted that digital governance is essential to minimize unnecessary human intervention and expedite the delivery of government services, which currently act as barriers to trade and investment. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz welcomed the closer ties with LCCI leadership, stating that integrating new ideas and practical, unconventional solutions is vital for sustainable development.

Advancing the “Invest Lahore” Initiative

LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar expressed appreciation for the support provided by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the district administration, particularly regarding the recent easing of lockdown restrictions. He stressed that economic growth should not be confined solely to the District Economy Plan. Instead, he proposed the launch of broader initiatives under the “Invest Lahore” banner to highlight the city’s investment potential. This proposal aims to attract international and domestic investors while creating a robust environment for industrial growth. Similar to how other nations have successfully utilized specialized regional skills to boost exports, the LCCI president suggested that Lahore should identify its specific competitive advantages to drive export-led growth. Such efforts align with the broader vision of promoting LCCI Export-Led Growth for Sustainable Economic Development as a pathway for regional prosperity.

Building a Business-Friendly Environment

Senior Vice President Sardar Usman Ghani echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that continuity and a favorable entrepreneurial climate are critical for Lahore’s progress. He expressed confidence that the partnership between the administration and the business community would foster job creation and commercial expansion. Vice President Chaudhry Khadim Hussain further highlighted that the digitalization of government services and the establishment of an integrated mechanism for resolving business complaints are essential. He noted that such measures, alongside the development of modern markets and greater transparency, would allow the city to unlock its full economic capacity. These initiatives complement ongoing efforts to enhance Pakistan’s industrial framework, such as the strategy to promote digital technology and industry-academia collaboration to improve overall export performance.
