Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand Discusses Security Ties With Mohsin Naqvi

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand visited Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior on Monday and held detailed talks with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on enhancing bilateral cooperation in security, trade and regional affairs. This high-level diplomatic meeting, which mirrors the importance of other recent international engagements like the Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand Meets Army Chief Syed Asim Munir, underscored the shared commitment to deepening ties between the two nations.

Review of Pakistan-Canada Bilateral Relations

According to an official statement, the meeting reviewed Pakistan-Canada relations, expanding bilateral engagement and the latest regional developments. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Canadian High Commissioner, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), additional secretaries of the Ministry of Interior and other senior officials also attended the meeting. The scope of these administrative discussions reflects ongoing efforts to streamline inter-departmental operations, similar to how PM Shehbaz Reviews Pakistan Railways Transformation Plan and Key Projects.

Combating Illegal Migration and Cybercrime

The two sides held detailed discussions on joint measures to combat illegal migration, human trafficking and cybercrime, and explored the launch of training and exchange programmes for officials of law enforcement agencies. Both ministers agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the earliest to further institutionalize and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan was keen to expand its relations with Canada across all sectors. He noted that the Pakistani community in Canada was making a significant and positive contribution to the development of both countries while serving as a strong bridge between them. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said an agreement to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest would give fresh momentum to Pakistan-Canada relations. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand described her country’s relationship with Pakistan as highly important and said Canada was committed to expanding bilateral ties. She emphasized the need for a comprehensive framework to further organize and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
