KP Assembly Passes Resolution Against Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah and Azma Bukhari’s Statements

PESHAWAR, September 11: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has passed a resolution condemning statements made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah and Punjab Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari.

Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam moved the resolution in the assembly. It stated that using terrorism for political point-scoring and allegations was against the national interest.

The resolution emphasized that terrorism was not the problem of any single province or region but a collective challenge faced by the entire state and nation.

It also condemned statements that could undermine national unity and the federal structure of Pakistan. The assembly called for action against the Punjab chief minister under the relevant laws concerning alleged constitutional violations.

The resolution further demanded that necessary proceedings be initiated in light of the requirements of Article 6 of the Constitution.

Background: The resolution comes amid an escalating political exchange between the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments over terrorism, law and order, and responsibility for the deteriorating security situation. KP lawmakers have repeatedly objected to statements by Punjab government leaders that they believe amount to political blame-shifting and undermine the sacrifices made by the province in the fight against terrorism.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has remained one of Pakistan’s worst-affected regions in the war against militancy, with civilians, police personnel and security forces suffering major casualties. Against this backdrop, the provincial assembly maintained that terrorism should be addressed through national unity, institutional coordination and a collective strategy rather than inter-provincial political confrontation.
