BEIJING (special crosspondent) – Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has invited Chinese investors to expand their presence within Pakistan’s ports, logistics and maritime sectors. During his visit, the minister stated that the government is currently implementing comprehensive reforms designed to transform the nation into a primary regional transit trade, logistics and industrial hub.

Strategic Partnership and Regional Connectivity

Addressing the Regional Transit Trade Hub Initiative in Beijing, the minister observed that the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China has entered a transformative new phase. Both nations are increasingly focused on enhancing connectivity, facilitating trade, improving logistics, fostering industrial development and ensuring sustainable economic growth. As Pakistan and Canada Strengthen Bilateral Trade and Strategic Cooperation through various initiatives, similar efforts are being mirrored in the country’s deepening ties with Beijing.

Digitalization and Modernization of Maritime Infrastructure

The minister noted that the global trade landscape is evolving rapidly, largely driven by digitalization, smart logistics, resilient supply chains, green shipping and multimodal transportation systems. He stressed that robust regional cooperation and innovative strategies are vital to addressing emerging global challenges and capitalizing on new economic opportunities. Key maritime institutions, including the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), are spearheading efforts to modernize the nation’s maritime infrastructure.

Investment Opportunities and CPEC Integration

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry stated that the Regional Transit Trade Hub concept aligns with Pakistan’s national economic priorities, offering significant avenues for joint investment in port modernization, multimodal transport corridors, logistics parks and industrial infrastructure. The minister highlighted Gwadar Port, the flagship project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as a primary destination for investment in port operations, warehousing and free zone development.
