*Vietnam’s Bamboo Welcome Center Showcases Sustainable Architecture Without Air Conditioning*

Hanoi: Vietnam’s Grand World Phu Quoc Welcome Center has emerged as a remarkable example of sustainable architecture, constructed using 42,000 bamboo culms and designed to operate without artificial air conditioning.

Designed by VTN Architects, the 15,700-square-foot (1,460-square-meter) pavilion draws inspiration from two iconic symbols of Vietnamese culture—the lotus flower and the bronze drum. The structure combines elegant arches, soaring domes, and a dense bamboo framework to create a visually striking and environmentally friendly landmark.

The building’s open lattice walls and a central rooftop light well allow natural daylight and continuous airflow to circulate throughout the interior. This passive design eliminates the need for air conditioning while significantly reducing the demand for artificial lighting during the day, making the pavilion highly energy-efficient.

The 42,000 bamboo culms were assembled using traditional rope bindings and steel pins, resulting in a durable structure that serves not only as a functional gateway but also as a symbol of Vietnam’s cultural heritage and commitment to sustainable construction.

The Grand World Phu Quoc Welcome Center is widely regarded as an outstanding example of green architecture, demonstrating how traditional materials and innovative design can create environmentally responsible buildings while preserving cultural identity.
