ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – The Yadgar-e-Fatah monument, constructed to honour the nation’s martyrs and commemorate the historic Marka-e-Haq, was inaugurated in a solemn ceremony on Thursday night as the national leadership reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty of Pakistan.

National Leadership Vows to Protect Sovereignty

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif jointly unveiled the monument on the country’s 79th Independence Anniversary. The leaders described the Yadgar-e-Fatah as a living symbol of the nation’s resolve, the professional excellence of the armed forces, and their clear superiority over the adversary. The event saw the attendance of the Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, and Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf.

Diplomatic and Strategic Achievements

Addressing the gathering, President Zardari commended Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for their efforts in advancing Pakistan’s international interests and fostering unity among Islamic nations. The President highlighted Pakistan’s role in mediating peace in the region and lauded the recent joint defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. Reflecting on the nation’s trajectory, he emphasized that while Pakistan seeks peace, it remains firm in its stance against aggression, drawing parallels to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. President Zardari also strongly condemned the ongoing genocide in Gaza, affirming that Pakistan would continue to stand against such injustices.

PM Sharif Warns Against Violating Pakistan’s Red Lines

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a stern message regarding national security, stating that while Pakistan sincerely desires peace, this should never be misconstrued as weakness. He asserted that any future challenge to the country’s integrity would be met with a response even more forceful than the victory in May 2025. “We do not want war; we want peace. But the desire for peace should not be taken as weakness,” the Prime Minister declared. He specifically addressed the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India, branding it an act of hostility. “I declare in clear words that every single drop of Pakistan’s water is our red line,” he warned. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of national unity in navigating these challenges, urging the youth to pursue modern scientific education to secure the country’s future. Furthermore, he addressed regional stability, advising the Afghan leadership to ensure their soil is not utilized for terrorism against Pakistan.

Architectural Significance and Commemoration

The monument, which was completed in a record eight months, features five grand archways representing the five pillars of Islam and the core pillars of the state: the government, the military, the media, the people, and the national ideology. The structure also honors the three branches of the armed forces, alongside advancements in cyber and space warfare. The ceremony included a projection mapping show titled “Dastan-e-Ishq-e-Watan: Marka-e-Haq” and a flypast by Pakistan Air Force jets, marking a momentous night for the nation. As the country moves forward, initiatives such as those promoted by business and national leaders underscore the collective effort required for sustainable progress. The event concluded with a flag-hoisting ceremony and fireworks, serving as a reminder of the sacrifices made for independence and the spirit of 79th Independence Day.
