JHANG (special crosspondent) – Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi officially reopened the long-awaited Multan-Jhang-Sargodha train service on Friday, hailing the restoration as a pivotal milestone for the economic and social integration of the Jhang region. During the inauguration ceremony held at Jhang Saddar Railway Station, the minister confirmed that the project was fast-tracked following directives from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

Expanding National Rail Infrastructure

Addressing the attendees, Hanif Abbasi outlined an ambitious plan to modernize the nation’s transit network, announcing that eight major railway routes are slated for significant upgrades. Furthermore, he revealed that the government intends to procure modern, high-capacity trains from China, designed to accommodate approximately 1,000 passengers per service. He emphasized that the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the Prime Minister remains central to these developmental strides. Responding to appeals from GDA leader Dr. Moazzam Waheed Sheikh, the minister also approved the establishment of a dry port in Jhang, pledging that Pakistan Railways would provide both cargo rail services and air-conditioned passenger coaches to support the facility.

Commitment to Public Service and Security

Minister Abbasi lamented that modern politics has frequently shifted away from public service, reasserting that the PML-N remains committed to tangible development. He lauded the ‘Suthra Punjab’ initiative and the introduction of green buses in Jhang, crediting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the city’s improved urban infrastructure. Reflecting on national security, the minister paid profound tribute to the armed forces. He asserted that peace in Pakistan is a direct result of the immense sacrifices made by soldiers, noting that the international community—including leaders like US President Donald Trump—has acknowledged the strength and strategic capability of Pakistan’s military establishment in overcoming hostile external pressures. He warned that while proxy elements continue to attempt to sow unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the security apparatus remains fully capable of neutralizing such threats.

Addressing Regional Disparities

Dr. Moazzam Waheed Sheikh expressed gratitude for the restoration of the train service, highlighting that Jhang, with a population of 2.7 million, has historically faced severe underdevelopment. He noted that nearly one million residents live below the poverty line, and the new rail link will serve as a vital lifeline for students and workers needing affordable transport. The event was also addressed by former provincial minister Faisal Hayat Jabwana, MPA Begum Abid Bashir, and Sheikh Mukarram Waheed, with participation from local administrative officials and the community at large.
