ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – A security guard was killed and two others, including former adviser Sardar Imtiaz Shaheen, were injured on Friday after unidentified armed assailants opened fire on an election convoy belonging to Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Azad Kashmir President Sardar Tanveer Ilyas in Tain Dalkot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding the security of political candidates during the ongoing election campaign.

Details of the Attack in Tain Dalkot

Initial reports indicate that the convoy came under sudden fire while traversing the Tain Dalkot area. Security personnel traveling with Sardar Tanveer Ilyas immediately returned fire, engaging the attackers. Following the exchange, the wounded individuals were promptly transported to a nearby medical facility for emergency care. Local law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area and initiated a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the attack.

Condemnation from IPP Leadership

Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) President Abdul Aleem Khan issued a strong condemnation of the violence, categorizing the assault as a cowardly attempt to destabilize the democratic process. He expressed profound sorrow over the death of the security guard, offering his deepest sympathies to the grieving family while praying for the swift recovery of those injured in the ambush.

“There is absolutely no room for violence in democratic politics. Such cowardly attacks cannot weaken our resolve or deter us from serving the people,” Aleem Khan stated. He emphasized that the party stands in solidarity with the victims’ families during this challenging period. The IPP leadership has urged relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice expeditiously, while also stressing the critical necessity of enhancing security measures for all political workers and candidates throughout the region.
