RAWALPINDI (special crosspondent) – Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan H.E. Timothy Kane visited the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to discuss expanding bilateral economic cooperation. The high-level meeting was hosted by RCCI President Usman Shaukat and Vice President Fahad Barlas, with Director of Trade & Education Mr. Azhar Shah also in attendance.

Strategic Focus on Trade and Investment

During the briefing, President Usman Shaukat outlined the Chamber’s proactive agenda, detailing various initiatives designed to strengthen international business linkages. Shaukat emphasized that there are significant untapped opportunities for Australia and Pakistan to collaborate in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, information technology, gems and mining, agriculture, livestock, and technical vocational training. As the FPCCI President Urges Strategic Expansion Into Untapped Eastern European Markets, regional chambers like RCCI are similarly looking to broaden their global trade horizons.

Deepening Bilateral Ties and Cooperation

Addressing the assembly, H.E. Timothy Kane underscored the importance of the historic people-to-people connections between the two nations. He highlighted that these bonds serve as a strong foundation for future cooperation in critical areas, specifically mentioning food security, water resource management, and climate change resilience. Educational and Agricultural Milestones

The High Commissioner pointed to the robust educational landscape between the two countries, noting that more than 22,000 Pakistani students are currently enrolled in Australian institutions. This figure reflects the enduring strength of the academic exchange. Furthermore, Kane acknowledged the four-decade-long success of bilateral agricultural collaboration.
