ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Minister of State for Railways and Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani has reaffirmed the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to advancing a cashless economy and accelerating digital financial inclusion across the country during a high-level engagement with the leadership of JS Bank and Zindigi.
The delegation, led by Mr. Basir Shamsie, President and CEO of JS Bank, alongside Mr. Noman Azhar, Chief Officer of Zindigi – JS Bank, and Mr. Atif Ishaque, Chief Business Officer of Zindigi – JS Bank, called on the Minister at the Finance Division to discuss key strategies for expanding digital financial services. This discussion aligns with broader national efforts to support fiscal stability and a digitally empowered economic landscape.
Strategic Advancements in Digital Finance
During the meeting, the delegation commended the government’s ongoing policy efforts and initiatives aimed at promoting cashless business models and driving formal financial adoption across various sectors. Such efforts are critical as policymakers continue to address challenges in farm productivity and broader economic development.
Government Vision and Public-Private Collaboration
Emphasizing the strategic importance of public-private partnerships, the Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is personally overseeing the cashless economy process and has achieved significant progress over the past year. Minister Kayani stated that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring transparency, enhancing public convenience, and accelerating the formal documentation of the economy through digital payments. This objective also complements ongoing regulatory reforms, such as those overseen by the DG Customs Valuation to ensure better import pricing policies.
Both sides expressed their firm commitment to continued collaboration in advancing digital financial services, strengthening digital infrastructure, and supporting the wider adoption of cashless solutions across the country.
