CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf Inspects Various Areas Following Rain, Monitors Drainage Operation

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf visited various areas of the federal capital following heavy rainfall and reviewed the drainage situation on roads, low-lying areas, underpasses, interchanges and major arteries.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon also accompanied the CDA chairman during the field visit.

Sohail Ashraf inspected the situation in Sector E-11 and other parts of the city and reviewed on-site arrangements for the timely disposal of rainwater. He also received briefings from relevant officers and field teams regarding drainage operations and measures being taken to prevent water accumulation.

According to the administration, special teams from the CDA, Emergency and Disaster Management, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and district administration are jointly engaged in a special drainage operation across the city.

Continuous monitoring of low-lying areas, underpasses, interchanges and major roads is being carried out during the heavy rainfall. Dewatering machinery and field teams have been deployed at vulnerable locations to ensure the rapid removal of accumulated rainwater.

Special dewatering arrangements are also being made at underpasses and other critical points to maintain the smooth flow of traffic. Obstacles blocking drains, storm-water channels and water passageways are being removed on an emergency basis.

The authorities have also directed field teams to immediately remove debris, garbage and other obstructions that could hamper the drainage of rainwater.

CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf directed all relevant officers to remain present in the field and closely monitor the situation. He instructed the authorities to provide maximum relief to citizens during and after the rainfall.

He further directed that no negligence or delay in the disposal of rainwater would be tolerated and that all relevant departments should work in close coordination to ensure an effective drainage operation.

CDA and district administration teams are also responding to complaints received from citizens and taking prompt action to address drainage-related issues.

The administration said that drainage, cleaning and restoration activities are being carried out simultaneously in different parts of Islamabad.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and stay away from low-lying areas, underpasses and locations prone to water accumulation.

The administration has urged residents to take precautionary measures and follow safety instructions issued by the authorities.
