Deputy PM Ishaq Dar Meets British Parliamentarians to Bolster Ties

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, on Wednesday, expressed his appreciation for the significant contributions made by British parliamentarians in bolstering Pakistan-UK relations, specifically noting their steadfast support for a fair resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

During a meeting held at Pakistan House in London, the Deputy Prime Minister engaged with a cross-party delegation of Pakistan-origin British lawmakers, as confirmed by the Foreign Office spokesperson.

Delegation and Discussions

The distinguished group of parliamentarians included Lord Zameer Choudrey, Lord Qurban Hussain, Baroness Shaista Sheehan, and Lord Shaffaq Mohammed. Also in attendance were Members of Parliament Mohammad Yasin, Yasmin Qureshi, Afzal Khan, Zubir Ahmed, and Adnan Hussain.

The British legislators commended Pakistan’s leadership and its proactive mediation efforts within the Middle East, noting that the nation’s historical contributions to regional stability are recognized globally and serve as a source of pride for the diaspora.

Diplomatic Initiatives and Regional Security

Addressing the current geopolitical landscape, Senator Ishaq Dar outlined Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and fostering peace. He emphasized that strict adherence to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding remains essential for achieving lasting stability in the region.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in enhancing collective security, reiterating that the accord is strictly defensive in nature.

Developments in Azad Jammu and Kashmir

The dialogue also encompassed recent political shifts in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with the British delegation extending their congratulations to Senator Ishaq Dar regarding the PML-N’s success in the recent legislative assembly elections.

Senator Ishaq Dar stated that the electorate in Azad Jammu and Kashmir expressed their confidence in the PML-N based on its proven track record of facilitating economic growth and infrastructure development. He affirmed that the incoming administration would focus on prioritizing investment and job creation to support the youth. The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, intends to engage with various political stakeholders to build a consensus on critical governance and constitutional reforms.

The session concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to strengthening the bilateral partnership between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
