Emergency Should Have Been Imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Much Earlier, Says Nawaz Sharif

LONDON: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has said that an emergency should have been imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa much earlier, arguing that the law and order situation in the province had deteriorated and was getting out of control.

Speaking to journalists in London, Nawaz Sharif criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), alleging that the party had caused damage to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during its 13 years in power.

He said the situation in the province had been deteriorating to the point where the decision to impose an emergency should have been taken earlier. According to Nawaz Sharif, the worsening law and order situation warranted such a step.

Criticising the provincial government’s conduct, the PML-N president questioned the use of provincial resources for political confrontations with the federal government.

“What kind of country allows a chief minister to use government resources to attack the federal capital?” he asked, adding that using provincial resources against Islamabad and other provinces was unacceptable.

Nawaz Sharif alleged that the PTI had harmed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past 13 years. He said the people of the province had now been freed from the PTI government.

Reaffirming his party’s commitment to national development, Nawaz Sharif said the PML-N remained determined to promote Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.

He added that the federal and provincial governments were working to improve the lives of ordinary citizens, with public welfare and economic development among their priorities.

Nawaz Sharif’s remarks reflect the PML-N’s political position on the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the use of provincial government resources, and the relationship between the federal and provincial governments.
