Gold, Silver Utensils, Antiques Worth Millions Stolen from Nawab of Bahawalpur Family’s House in Islamabad; Six Arrested

ISLAMABAD: Gold and silver utensils, historical antiques and other valuables worth around Rs20 million were stolen from the residence of the Nawab of Bahawalpur’s family in Islamabad, with police arresting six suspects and recovering 70 to 80 per cent of the stolen property.
The incident took place at the residence of Prince Bahawal Abbas Abbasi, son of former Nawab of Bahawalpur Salahuddin Abbasi, in Sector F-8/3 of Islamabad, falling within the jurisdiction of Margalla Police Station.
According to police reports, the stolen items included a silver throne-like chair, silver stairs, silver bowls, gold plates, various statues and other valuable objects bearing the insignia of the former Bahawalpur State.
A large historical silver frame bearing the Bahawalpur State emblem was also reported stolen, along with old muskets, swords and other antique weapons associated with the former princely state.
The theft came to light after the store room of the residence was found broken into on October 1 at around 3pm. The family subsequently informed the police about the missing historical and valuable items.
Police registered a case at Margalla Police Station on the complaint of Prince Bahawal Abbas Abbasi. Reports have cited Sections 380 and 454 of the Pakistan Penal Code in connection with the case.
According to Islamabad Police, the Margalla police team traced the suspects with the help of Safe City cameras, modern technology and human intelligence. Six suspects were subsequently arrested.
SSP Operations Islamabad Qazi Ali Raza said that approximately 70 to 80 per cent of the stolen property had been recovered from the suspects. Police are continuing efforts to recover the remaining valuables and identify and arrest any other persons involved in the theft.
Police have not yet released the names of all six suspects or disclosed their individual roles in the alleged theft.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as police proceed with the recovery of the remaining stolen antiques and valuables.
