Norwegian FM, Mohsin Naqvi Agree to Enhance Cooperation on Counterterrorism and Illegal Immigration

ISLAMABAD: Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide visited the Ministry of Interior and held a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, with the two sides discussing bilateral relations, regional developments and matters of mutual interest.

The meeting focused on ways to enhance cooperation in counterterrorism, prevention of illegal immigration, police training and mutual legal assistance, with both sides agreeing to strengthen collaboration in these areas.

The situation in Afghanistan and the activities of banned organizations operating from Afghan territory were also discussed in detail.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Afghan territory continues to be used for terrorism against Pakistan. He stressed that the international community needs to work together for the complete elimination of terrorism.

“Pakistan stands as a wall between the world and terrorism,” Naqvi said, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to counter the threat.

Discussing illegal immigration, the interior minister said Pakistan had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal immigration. He said Pakistan’s effective measures had contributed to a 47 percent reduction in illegal immigration to Europe.

Naqvi said Pakistan’s measures against illegal immigration had also been appreciated by the European Union. He stressed that promoting legal immigration was essential for effectively curbing illegal migration.

The Norwegian foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and active role in efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran.

Naqvi welcomed the Norwegian foreign minister’s visit, saying it would prove an important milestone in further strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Norway.

The Norwegian foreign minister also appreciated the active role of the Pakistani community in Norway.

He said the Pakistani community was playing an important role in various fields, including politics and healthcare, and was making a positive contribution to Norwegian society.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding bilateral cooperation and strengthening institutional linkages in areas of mutual interest.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Federal Secretary Interior and senior officials were also present during the meeting.
