Pakistan Close to Victory as West Indies Reach 103-6 in Second Innings

PORT OF SPAIN: Pakistan moved to the brink of victory in the second and final Test against the West Indies after a dominant all-round performance, highlighted by Abdullah Shafique’s magnificent century and Sajid Khan’s match-winning spell with the ball.

At the close of the third day’s play at Queen’s Park Oval, the West Indies were 103 for 6 in their second innings, holding an overall lead of just 60 runs with only four wickets remaining. Pakistan is now well placed to wrap up the innings quickly on the fourth day and chase a modest target to level the two-match series 1-1.

Earlier, the West Indies, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, were bowled out for 344. Justin Greaves top-scored with 73, while captain Roston Chase contributed 70. Kraigg Brathwaite made 42 and Mikyle Louis added 36. Pakistan’s off-spinner Sajid Khan claimed four wickets, while Mohammad Ali, Ubaid Shah and Ali Usman picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Pakistan posted 387 in their first innings to secure a valuable 43-run lead. Abdullah Shafique remained unbeaten on a superb 160, while captain Babar Azam played a composed knock of 88. Saim Ayub scored 28 and Saud Shakeel added 22. For the West Indies, Jomel Warrican took three wickets and Jayden Seales claimed two.

Trailing by 43 runs, the West Indies once again struggled against Pakistan’s spin attack in their second innings. Sajid Khan continued his outstanding form, taking four crucial wickets to put the hosts under immense pressure, while Ali Usman dismissed two batters.

At stumps on the third day, Kasey Carty was unbeaten on 31 and Jomel Warrican was on 12. Pakistan will aim to claim the remaining four wickets early on the fourth day and chase down the expected small target to secure victory and level the Test series.
