WhatsApp Testing New Folder to Organize Promotional Business Chat Messages

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature designed to significantly reduce clutter in users’ chat lists by automatically migrating promotional and informational messages from large corporate entities into a designated separate folder. As PEMRA Complaints Council reviews media compliance standards in the broader digital landscape, this development highlights the evolving nature of communication platforms.
New Folder for Streamlined Business Communication
According to emerging reports, the platform is introducing an “Offers & Updates” folder. This dedicated space will house messages including promotional offers, discount codes, order confirmations, and delivery updates originating from banks, airlines, e-commerce platforms, and other major businesses. The primary objective is to maintain a cleaner, more organized primary chat interface for users while ensuring that these business communications remain easily accessible.
Technical Implementation and User Control
Industry reports suggest that WhatsApp is experimenting with various time intervals—up to a maximum of 24 hours—to determine the optimal window after which business messages should be automatically transferred to the new repository. Users who prefer to retain their current chat structure will have the ability to disable this feature through the application’s settings menu. However, current specifications indicate that users will not be provided with the granular option to customize their own preferred transfer time windows.
Scope of the Feature Rollout
In the initial phase, this organizational feature will apply exclusively to messages transmitted by large, verified business accounts. Conversations with small businesses and individual personal accounts will continue to appear within the main chat list as they do currently. WhatsApp is reportedly exploring the possibility of expanding this functionality to include smaller enterprises in future updates. While Meta has yet to confirm a global release date, analysts note that the move is part of a broader effort to enhance user experience by streamlining communication flows without compromising access to critical information.
