ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Pakistani mobile users may soon be able to transfer their eSIM from one smartphone to another without incurring any additional charges, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is actively developing a uniform regulatory framework for all domestic mobile network operators.

According to recent reports, the proposed policy intends to establish a standardized system across the national telecom sector, enabling subscribers to transition their digital SIM profiles between devices free of cost. Under the preliminary framework currently under consideration, customers are expected to be granted a provision for at least 10 free eSIM transfers, significantly easing the process for those upgrading or switching mobile hardware.

Policy Discussions in Senate Committee

The regulatory development was formally addressed during a recent session of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat. During the proceedings, senior PTA officials acknowledged that current market practices remain fragmented, as mobile operators implement disparate policies regarding eSIM management. This inconsistency has frequently resulted in unnecessary inconvenience for subscribers who face varying service fees and procedural hurdles when attempting to migrate their digital subscriptions.
