Mohsin Naqvi Directs Fast-Track Upgradation of Islamabad Expressway Service Road

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to accelerate the rehabilitation and widening of the service road along the Islamabad Expressway, stressing that the long-neglected route should be transformed into a modern model road at the earliest.

During a visit to inspect the ongoing development work, Naqvi reviewed the project’s progress and received a detailed briefing from Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman on the scope, implementation strategy and timeline of the scheme.

Expressing concern over the deteriorated condition of the service road, the minister said years of neglect, illegal encroachments, unauthorized constructions, accumulated waste and a damaged road surface had created serious difficulties for commuters and local residents. He said the project would improve traffic flow while enhancing the overall appearance of the area.

Naqvi instructed the relevant authorities to ensure the early relocation of utility infrastructure, particularly electricity poles, to prevent delays and enable the timely completion of the project.

He said the more than nine-kilometre-long service road would be completed within the shortest possible time and developed according to modern urban standards.

The interior minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading Islamabad’s infrastructure and emphasized that environmental sustainability would remain a priority, adding that efforts to make the capital greener would continue alongside development projects.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and the Project Director also accompanied the minister during the inspection visit.
