According to Saudi Gazette, Jazan has more than one million mango trees producing around 65,000 tonnes of mangoes annually. The region accounts for nearly 60% of Saudi Arabia’s total mango production, making it the Kingdom’s leading mango-producing area.

The report said Jazan is also home to more than 800,000 papaya trees, which produce over 40,000 tonnes of fruit each year. More than one million banana trees contribute approximately 15,000 tonnes of bananas annually.

According to Saudi Gazette, Jazan’s warm climate and natural resources provide favorable conditions for growing tropical fruits, while efforts by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and local farmers are helping expand agricultural production.

Modern farming technologies and improved cultivation practices are also being introduced to increase productivity and enhance the quality of agricultural produce.

A major “Tropical Fruits and Greenhouses” project is also being developed in Jazan, with investment of more than 600 million Saudi riyals. The project covers an area of two million square meters.

The project aims to increase tropical fruit production, promote modern agricultural technologies and add value to locally produced agricultural products, while creating new opportunities for investment and rural development.

The growing agricultural sector in Jazan is not only contributing to Saudi Arabia’s food security but also supporting rural economies, employment and sustainable agricultural development.
