Pakistan launches first National Power Sector Innovation Programme

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has officially launched Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Programme, aimed at developing innovative and practical solutions to challenges facing the country’s power sector.

The programme will operate through the Innovation Hub, a dedicated digital platform designed to connect young talent, researchers, universities, startups, industry and experts to promote innovation and collaboration in the energy sector.

The initiative will identify, evaluate, mentor and support promising ideas and help transform innovative concepts and research into tested, scalable solutions for a more efficient, reliable and sustainable power sector.

Under the programme, more than Rs1 billion will be allocated over the next three years for mentorship, technical assistance, pilot projects and scaling up successful innovations.

Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the world was rapidly changing due to artificial intelligence, digitalization, emerging technologies and new business models, requiring the power sector to adopt greater innovation, creative thinking and continuous improvement.

He said the National Power Sector Innovation Programme was not merely a competition but the first national institutional framework of its kind for the power sector. The programme had been designed to identify, evaluate, mentor and support innovative ideas and transform them into practical solutions.

The minister invited young Pakistanis to participate in the programme and present innovative ideas aimed at addressing challenges in the country’s power sector.

Through the Innovation Hub, aspiring innovators, students, researchers, startups and young professionals can submit their ideas and become part of a national effort to shape the future of energy in Pakistan.

The programme will provide promising ideas with a structured pathway from concepts and research to mentorship, technical support, pilot implementation and eventual national-scale deployment.
