Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Agree to Continue Regional Peace and Security Talks

*Tehran:* Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have agreed to continue dialogue aimed at strengthening cooperation among the four regional countries, particularly in matters relating to regional peace and security.

The understanding was reached during the first quadrilateral meeting of senior officials from the four countries, held in Tehran on October 26, 2026. A joint statement issued after the meeting said that the participants had agreed to continue dialogue to strengthen cooperation among the four regional countries, including in the fields of peace and security.

The meeting was hosted by Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Pakistan was represented by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Saudi Arabia by Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, and Türkiye by the head of its National Intelligence Organisation, Ibrahim Kalin.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also attended the discussions, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with the visiting delegations.

According to reports from Iranian and Turkish media, the discussions covered the regional security situation, Israel’s activities in the region, and developments in Palestine and Lebanon. The talks took place amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns over the possibility of renewed military escalation.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei described the meeting as a practical step towards developing a regional security framework based on the shared interests and capabilities of countries in the region. He said sustainable security could not be achieved without trust and cooperation among regional states.

President Masoud Pezeshkian also emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation among Muslim countries. He said Iran was ready to take steps towards deeper regional cooperation, resolving differences and making use of the collective capabilities of Islamic countries.

Following the meeting, Mohsen Rezaei said that the security of West Asia should be based on the countries of the region and that external interference should be avoided. He also stressed the need for regional countries to work together to address the crises confronting the region.

The Tehran meeting is being viewed as an important diplomatic development, bringing together Iran and the three countries associated with the Makkah defence arrangement—Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye—at a time of heightened regional tensions.

Pakistan has played an active diplomatic role in facilitating regional engagement, while Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have also been involved in efforts to promote stability and prevent further escalation.

However, the joint statement did not announce a new military alliance, a joint military command, a ceasefire agreement or any specific defence commitment. Its central outcome was an agreement to maintain dialogue and strengthen cooperation on regional peace and security.
