Islamabad Cricket Stadium Project Moves Closer to Construction as CDA Secures Rs400 Million Rebate
*ISLAMABAD:* The construction of a modern cricket stadium in Pakistan’s federal capital has moved a step closer after the Capital Development Authority (CDA) secured a rebate of Rs400 million from the contractor, resolving a financial dispute that had delayed the groundbreaking ceremony.
The project was initially estimated to cost Rs11.9 billion, while the lowest bid received stood at Rs8.9 billion. However, disagreements over pricing and financial terms had delayed the launch of construction work. The issue has now been settled between the CDA and the contractor, with construction expected to begin within days.
The access road connecting Margalla Road to the proposed stadium site near Sector D-12 has also been completed.
The first phase of the project will include construction of the cricket stadium and approximately three kilometres of roads. The second phase will cover landscaping, electrical infrastructure, cricket pitches and other associated facilities.
Meanwhile, the location of the proposed stadium has raised questions regarding construction regulations in Zone III, where building activities are generally restricted. However, the CDA maintains that sports facilities are permissible under the applicable regulations.
Once completed, the stadium is expected to strengthen Islamabad’s sports infrastructure and create opportunities for hosting domestic and international cricket matches in the federal capital.
