ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani hosted a high-level delegation from Qatar, led by H.E. Sheikh Nayef Bin Eid Al Thani, a senior member of the Qatari Royal Family and a prominent business leader, to discuss the expansion of bilateral economic and political cooperation. During the meeting held on 23rd August 2026, Chairman Gilani underscored the deep-rooted, centuries-old fraternal ties between Pakistan and Qatar, which are anchored in shared faith, culture, and history.

Expanding Strategic Cooperation

Chairman Senate Gilani emphasized that the current global landscape necessitates a robust partnership between the two nations, particularly in the realms of trade and investment. Highlighting the strategic imperative of renewable energy and sustainable growth, he invited Qatari investors to leverage the untapped potential within Pakistan’s energy, agriculture, and tourism sectors. The discussion also touched upon the necessity of fostering socio-political unity, with the Chairman praising the significance of the Makkah Accord in ensuring stability across the Muslim world.

Parliamentary Diplomacy and Investment

During the briefing, Chairman Gilani detailed his initiative regarding the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), centered on the themes of peace, security, and regional development. He expressed his gratitude for the active participation of the Honourable Speaker of Qatar in the upcoming conference in Islamabad. The session served as a platform to highlight how strategic focus and innovation can propel economic integration between the two countries.

Commitment to Economic Prosperity

H.E. Sheikh Nayef Bin Eid Al Thani reciprocated the sentiment, expressing keen interest in exploring diverse investment portfolios in Pakistan. He lauded the country’s proactive role in facilitating regional dialogue and security. Furthermore, Sheikh Nayef emphasized the importance of supporting the Pakistani diaspora in Qatar, who act as a vital bridge between the two nations. The meeting also addressed the importance of creating conducive environments for foreign direct investment, noting that such partnerships could yield significant dividends, similar to how agricultural expansion can lead to long-term national savings. The meeting was attended by the Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador of the ISC, Ms. Misbah Khar.
