China Builds World’s First Bamboo-Based Offshore Solar Platform

BEIJING: China has established the world’s first bamboo-based offshore solar platform, marking a major breakthrough in renewable energy and sustainable marine engineering.

According to a report by People’s Daily China, the 100-kilowatt offshore photovoltaic platform, named “Jilin-2,” has been successfully installed in Yantai, Shandong Province. The project represents the first practical application of bamboo-based marine engineering materials in the offshore renewable energy sector.

The platform has been constructed using bamboo winding composite pipes and customized high-performance bamboo-based marine engineering materials as key structural components.

Experts say the innovative design is expected to reduce the impact on marine ecosystems compared with conventional steel structures and high-density polyethylene floats, making clean electricity generation even more environmentally friendly.

The project is being viewed as another significant step in China’s efforts to promote green technology, sustainable infrastructure and low-carbon development while advancing the use of renewable energy.
