Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Meets U.S. EXIM Bank President John Jovanovic

WASHINGTON, D.C. (special crosspondent) – Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a high-level meeting with the President and Chairman of the U.S. Export-Import (EXIM) Bank, Mr. John Jovanovic, in Washington, D.C. The discussion centered on fortifying the bilateral economic and commercial architecture between Pakistan and the United States. Following recent high-level engagements, including Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb’s discussions with the US Treasury, this meeting marked a critical step in expanding strategic cooperation.

Expanding Bilateral Trade and Financing Frameworks

During the session, Minister Aurangzeb explored avenues for enhancing trade in key agricultural commodities, specifically cotton and soybeans, while also addressing requirements for hydrocarbon imports. The dialogue emphasized the necessity of securing financing for long-term infrastructural and commercial projects that align with the national growth trajectory. As the Finance Minister continues to discuss priority investment projects with the US DFC and other development partners, this collaboration with the U.S. EXIM Bank is expected to provide the necessary liquidity for sustainable development.

Strategic Roadmap for Future Cooperation

The Finance Minister expressed appreciation for the U.S. EXIM Bank’s proposal to institute a comprehensive framework aimed at consolidating priority projects. This mechanism is designed to establish a multi-year transaction pipeline that will facilitate the integration of U.S. technology, specialized equipment, and essential services into the Pakistani market. Both the Ministry of Finance and the U.S. EXIM Bank leadership agreed to expedite the process by identifying immediate, high-impact transactions. Designated focal persons from both sides will now collaborate to finalize the strategic framework, with the intent of reaching a formal agreement during the United Nations General Assembly session scheduled for September 2026.
