DUBAI, September 30: A Flydubai passenger flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv triggered a hijacking alert after an alleged altercation between the two pilots during the flight, prompting Israel to scramble fighter jets while the aircraft was diverted and made an emergency landing in the Saudi Arabian city of Tabuk.According to reports, Flydubai flight FZ1073 departed Dubai International Airport for Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. During the flight, the aircraft transmitted emergency transponder code 7700 and subsequently briefly transmitted code 7500, which is used in aviation to indicate an unlawful interference or possible hijacking. The transmission of the hijacking code prompted Israeli authorities to take immediate security measures, with Israeli fighter jets reportedly scrambled toward the aircraft. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials were also briefed on the developing situation. The aircraft subsequently changed course and entered Saudi Arabian airspace before landing safely at Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Reports said around 180 passengers and crew members were on board, and all those aboard were reported to be safe. The initial transmission of the 7500 code raised concerns that the aircraft might have been hijacked. However, subsequent reports indicated that the aircraft had not been hijacked and that the emergency situation was apparently linked to an altercation between the two pilots in the cockpit. The reported dispute between the pilots was serious enough to trigger an emergency response and raise concerns among Israeli authorities about a possible security incident. After the aircraft landed safely in Saudi Arabia, the hijacking concern was reportedly ruled out.Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the cause of the altercation between the pilots and why the aircraft transmitted the hijacking code.No casualties or injuries among the passengers or crew have been reported. The aircraft remains in Saudi Arabia following the emergency diversion.
