ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – President Asif Ali Zardari has formally called for the further enhancement of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia, specifically targeting advancements in law enforcement, counter-terrorism initiatives, narcotics control, and joint efforts to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling. The President made these remarks during a high-level meeting with the Malaysian Minister for Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, held at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The session was also attended by the Federal Minister for Interior & Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.

The visiting delegation included the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, alongside Ibrahim Darus, Director of the Special Branch of the Royal Malaysia Police, and Hafidz Othman, Deputy Commissioner General of the Malaysian Prison Department. Welcoming the guests, President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan places significant importance on its fraternal relationship with Malaysia, a bond deeply rooted in shared religious values, cultural heritage, and robust people-to-people connections. These diplomatic efforts continue to build on the Pakistan and Malaysia Reaffirm Commitment to Deepening Bilateral Cooperation as both nations seek to align their internal security strategies.

Institutional Cooperation and Trade Expansion

The President expressed his appreciation for the ongoing progress in institutional cooperation, with a particular focus on internal security, immigration protocols, and legal frameworks. He stated that maintaining consistent coordination between the relevant agencies of both nations is essential for streamlining services for citizens and effectively addressing mutual concerns. Furthermore, discussions expanded to include economic cooperation, with the President highlighting the necessity of exploring greater market access for high-demand Pakistani exports, such as rice, wheat, potatoes, poultry, and animal feed. Diplomatic Milestones and Air Connectivity

During the meeting, Minister Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail noted that the year 2026 marks the 69th anniversary of the diplomatic partnership between the two nations, which dates back to Malaysia’s independence in 1957. The Minister also highlighted the robust state of air connectivity, confirming that 14 flights currently operate weekly between various Pakistani cities and Malaysia. He indicated that active efforts are underway to increase this frequency to further bolster economic and social integration. Following the meeting, the President expressed his confidence that the visit would serve as a catalyst for strengthening institutional ties, ensuring that the longstanding, multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia continues to flourish in the coming years.
