ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – President Asif Ali Zardari has extended his formal felicitations to the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, along with the government and the people of Singapore, on the occasion of their 61st National Day. In a message released by the President’s Secretariat (Media Wing), the President stated that Pakistan holds in high regard Singapore’s remarkable journey of nation-building and its significant economic transformation. He attributed this progress to the nation’s visionary leadership, prudent governance, and the unwavering commitment of its citizenry, noting that Singapore’s success serves as an inspiring global model of resilience and innovation.

Commemorating Six Decades of Diplomatic Ties

President Zardari highlighted that the current year holds particular significance, as Pakistan and Singapore mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. He emphasized that over the past six decades, the bilateral relationship has consistently strengthened, anchored by deep-rooted mutual trust, goodwill, and robust people-to-people connections. This diplomatic milestone reflects the efforts seen in other regional engagements, similar to how DPM/FM Dar reaffirms Pakistan’s support for ASEAN’s peace, prosperity efforts, aligning with broader strategic objectives.

Expanding Future Cooperation

The President articulated that both nations are committed to maintaining sustained bilateral political engagements while continuing to collaborate at various multilateral forums. He underscored that there remains vast untapped potential for expanding cooperation across several critical sectors, including the digital economy, green technology, maritime and logistics connectivity, and urban planning. Furthermore, the President noted that vocational training, academic and cultural exchanges, and tourism are vital avenues for future growth. Pakistan, he stated, remains keen to work closely with Singapore to further deepen cooperation in these areas of mutual interest for the collective benefit of both nations.
