RAWALPINDI (special crosspondent) – The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has officially expanded the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s automated e-challan system to 14 additional strategic locations across the city. This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to strengthen traffic law enforcement and significantly reduce road accidents through modern technology. Enhanced Enforcement Through Technology

According to a police spokesperson, the system utilizes advanced surveillance cameras designed to automatically identify traffic violations. Once a violation is recorded, an e-challan is issued directly to the offender, thereby reducing the necessity for traffic officers to manually intercept vehicles, which often contributes to congestion. This shift is designed to improve overall compliance with traffic regulations, mitigate accident risks, and prioritize public safety within the metropolitan area.

New Surveillance Locations

The newly activated e-challan monitoring points include several high-traffic corridors: Abid Majeed Road near Army Medical College, Lane 4 on Main Peshawar Road, Raafi Mall on Main Peshawar Road, Chauhar Chowk, and the Chishtia Abad Turn. Furthermore, coverage has been extended to Rawal Road near Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Hameed Khan Chowk on Murree Road, and Committee Chowk near Fish Market. Additional surveillance points have been established at Bohar Bazaar opposite Naaz Cinema on Murree Road, Double Road Turn at Shalimar, Dhoke Khallo near Sixth Road, Survey of Pakistan U-Turn on Murree Road, Sanober City on Main Adiala Road, and the U-Turn Chowk near the Punjab Housing Authority on Main Adiala Road.

Traffic authorities have urged motorists and road users to adhere strictly to prescribed speed limits and traffic signals to avoid financial penalties.
