RAWALPINDI (special crosspondent) – The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) recently hosted the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Chandra W. Sukotjo, to deliberate on strategic pathways for bolstering bilateral trade and investment. The diplomatic delegation accompanying the Ambassador included Mrs. Ingan Malen, Head of Economic Affairs; Mrs. Qurrat Ul Ain, staff of the Economic Section; Mr. Muhammad Khairul Ajyal of the Socio-Culture Section; and Mr. Dicky Rachmat Pauji, Personal Secretary to the Ambassador.

Strengthening Bilateral Economic Ties

RCCI President Usman Shaukat, supported by Vice President Fahad Barlas and members of the executive committee, formally welcomed the guests, noting the deep-rooted diplomatic rapport between the two nations. President Shaukat highlighted the significant untapped potential in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and value-added exports. He emphasized that strengthening regional trade cooperation and fostering robust business-to-business (B2B) linkages are essential to achieving a more balanced trade volume between Pakistan and Indonesia.

Promising Sectors for Strategic Collaboration

Ambassador Chandra W. Sukotjo reiterated Indonesia’s dedication to deepening commercial ties. He identified several key sectors ripe for investment, including the halal food industry, tourism, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and digital technology. The Ambassador noted that while the two nations have long enjoyed positive diplomatic relations, it is now imperative to translate these ties into concrete economic outcomes. He also addressed administrative facilitators, stating that Indonesia has simplified the visa application process for Pakistani business travelers, with further reductions in visa fees currently under review to encourage greater mobility.

Invitation to the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia

As part of the outreach to local industry leaders, Ambassador Sukotjo extended a formal invitation for the Pakistani business community to attend the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia. Scheduled for October 14 to 18, 2026, the event is positioned as a primary gateway into Southeast Asian markets. The Ambassador encouraged local manufacturers and exporters to leverage this exhibition to forge strategic international partnerships. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintaining institutional dialogue, a process that mirrors the spirit of international cooperation seen in other trade initiatives, aimed at fostering sustainable economic development between the two countries.
