Saif Ur Rehman Urges Expanding Trade to Boost Pakistan Exports

LAHORE (Special Correspondent) – Coordinator to the Federal Tax Ombudsman, Saif Ur Rehman, on Sunday called for aggressively expanding trade with regional countries, particularly the Middle East, to boost exports, attract foreign exchange and explore new markets for Pakistani products.

Talking to a delegation of traders here, he said Middle Eastern markets offered significant opportunities for a wide range of Pakistani products, particularly fruits, vegetables and processed food items, including popular, world-class Zia Snacks. His vision aligns with broader national efforts to improve industrial output, much like how Haroon Akhtar Khan Pledges Government Support for Industrial Growth Reform to bolster the economy.

Strengthening Regional Economic Cooperation

He stressed the need to establish stronger trade networks and facilitate exporters in exploring new markets. Closer economic cooperation with Middle Eastern and other regional countries, he said, could help Pakistan diversify its exports, attract investment and create employment opportunities. This strategy reflects the ongoing need for institutional coordination, similar to the RCCI Delegation Discusses Business Growth with Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi to foster a better trade environment.

Policy Reforms and Operational Enhancements

Saif Ur Rehman called for simplifying export procedures, improving logistics and ensuring competitive energy and production costs for exporters. He also emphasised the need for better banking and customs facilities to make Pakistani products more competitive in international markets. He said Pakistan enjoyed significant geographical and economic advantages that could be effectively utilised to establish stronger commercial links with neighbouring and regional economies.

Value-Added Products and Diplomatic Support

He stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy to increase exports of value-added products and reduce the trade imbalance. The coordinator also urged Pakistani diplomatic missions abroad to play a more proactive role in identifying business opportunities, connecting local exporters with foreign buyers and promoting Pakistani products in international markets.
