BEIJING (special crosspondent) – A small aircraft collided with the upper floors of Beijing’s tallest skyscraper, the 108-storey CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun, on Friday. The incident triggered a significant emergency response and led to the evacuation of the building. Eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft was approximately the size of a car when it struck the tower, causing windows to shatter and debris to fall onto surrounding streets. Chinese authorities immediately cordoned off the area, and police, firefighters, and emergency services were dispatched to the scene. The occupants of the CITIC Tower were evacuated as a precautionary measure. As of now, Chinese officials have not confirmed any casualties or injuries, and information regarding the number of individuals aboard the aircraft is still pending. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. In the aftermath of the incident, several roads in the vicinity of the tower were closed, and security measures were enhanced. Authorities also reportedly restricted photography and removed some social media content pertaining to the crash. The CITIC Tower, a prominent landmark in Beijing, stands at 528 metres and comprises 108 storeys, making it the city’s tallest building.
