5G Technology Can Transform Agriculture and Boost National Productivity: Shahid Imran

Lahore, November 8 (3D Media): Shahid Imran, Convener of the Food Regional Committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), has said that 5G-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) sensors can significantly improve irrigation systems and crop management, helping increase agricultural productivity and strengthen the sector’s contribution to Pakistan’s GDP.

Speaking at the inauguration of a state-of-the-art agricultural farm here on Sunday, he said 5G technology could serve as a major catalyst in accelerating Pakistan’s digital economy. Besides providing high-speed mobile broadband, its ultra-low latency and ability to connect a large number of devices simultaneously could help modernise key industries, enhance productivity and support long-term economic growth.

Shahid Imran said advanced automation and smart supply chains in the manufacturing and logistics sectors could reduce operational costs and improve the international competitiveness of Pakistani industries.

He added that 5G technology would also open new opportunities for Pakistan’s growing freelancing and IT sectors by enabling seamless remote collaboration, high-bandwidth services and greater participation in international digital trade.

He stressed that addressing infrastructure-related challenges was essential to unlocking the technology’s full potential. High infrastructure costs, foreign exchange allocation priorities and the need for extensive fibre-optic network expansion require strong public-private partnerships, supportive spectrum policies and targeted foreign investment.

He said that by prioritising strategic network expansion and creating a business-friendly regulatory environment, Pakistan could leverage 5G technology to build a stronger, technology-driven economy and secure a competitive position in the global digital marketplace.
