ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday issued a clarion call for sweeping institutional reforms, urging Pakistan’s business community to transcend traditional roles of campaign financing and instead take a proactive lead in shaping the nation’s governance and economic trajectory. Addressing the Pakistan Economic Summit in the federal capital, the minister emphasized that Pakistan’s persistent governance hurdles cannot be bypassed without structural overhauls, administrative decentralization, and robust cooperation among all political stakeholders.

The Necessity for Structural Governance Overhaul

Reflecting on extensive deliberations at the summit, Naqvi noted that nationwide representatives consistently identified systemic failures in public service delivery and economic management. While recognizing Pakistan’s strengthening international position and emerging market opportunities, the minister argued that chronic governance deficiencies have consistently stifled the country’s potential. He advocated for a shift from reactive measures to fundamental institutional strengthening, aligning with ongoing national dialogues on economic stability, similar to recent calls regarding RCCI President Usman Shaukat’s advocacy for a balanced fuel pricing reform policy.

Advocating for Decentralized Governance

Naqvi urged political parties, civil society, and business leaders to collaborate on establishing additional administrative units or provinces to bring justice and essential government services closer to the citizenry. He asserted that an efficient, responsive administrative structure is the bedrock of democracy, replacing outdated systems that no longer serve the public interest. Effective local governance remains a critical pillar for sustainable growth, a theme often echoed in discussions concerning national stability and Germany and Pakistan’s collaboration to build a skilled green energy workforce.

Empowering Entrepreneurs and Youth

In a direct appeal to the entrepreneurial class, the minister challenged business leaders to leverage their management expertise to solve complex national challenges rather than limiting their influence to election funding. He posited that meaningful change requires a collective demand from the private sector for deep-rooted institutional shifts. Regarding the country’s youth, Naqvi warned against the risks of ignoring merit-based employment aspirations, stating that providing transparent opportunities must become a non-negotiable national priority.

Ending the Cycle of Debt

The interior minister criticized the persistent dependence on external borrowing to balance national budgets, arguing that such measures lack longevity without fundamental structural reform. He called upon national leaders to transcend political polarization and engage in a unified dialogue to redesign governance frameworks. According to Naqvi, this era presents a unique window of opportunity to initiate reforms that, if handled with consensus, could secure long-term political stability and economic prosperity. He concluded his address by pledging to engage with stakeholders across all regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, to foster national unity and reinforce the country’s institutional integrity, much like efforts made in the interest of Pakistan and Turkiye’s reaffirmed support for the Palestinian people.
