PHNOM PENH (special crosspondent) – Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, attended a high-level luncheon hosted in his honour by the Senate of Cambodia as part of the ongoing 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC). The event, which underscored the critical need for parliamentary diplomacy, was hosted by H.E Neak Oknah Datuk Dr. Othsman Hassan, Senior Minister Incharge of Special Mission of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Advancing Global Peace Through Parliamentary Dialogue

During the proceedings, Chairman Gilani articulated his vision for the conference, emphasizing that the primary objective of his mission is to cultivate global peace through collective legislative action and sustained dialogue. He noted that the ISC serves as a vital platform for Speakers and Presiding Officers to forge consensus on multifaceted global challenges, thereby fostering greater mutual understanding among nations. Much like efforts to ensure regional stability, such as the Saudi Cabinet calls for safe and open Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandab, parliamentary cooperation remains essential for de-escalating international tensions.

The event also hosted Dr. (H.C.) Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of Indonesia. Chairman Gilani and the Indonesian Speaker held a productive exchange, focusing on the ISC agenda and exploring avenues for deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation. Delegates at the luncheon recognized the ISC’s pivotal role in convening legislative leaders to address common concerns. They highlighted that consistent engagement through such forums is crucial for the peaceful resolution of disputes and for promoting deeper regional connectivity, mirroring global efforts to enhance Maryam Nawaz Meets Xinjiang Leadership, Agrees to Expand Cooperation in Agriculture, Industry and Technology through high-level diplomatic outreach.

Commitment to Future Cooperation

Chairman Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the objectives of the ISC. He expressed optimism that the 2nd Conference in Cambodia would serve as a catalyst for strengthening international linkages and advancing the cause of global stability. The Pakistani delegation present at the event included H.E. Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem, Ambassador of Pakistan to Cambodia; Ms. Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador to the ISC; and MNA Shumaila Rana, alongside Indonesian Senator Mirah Midadan Fahmid. As the conference proceeds, Chairman Gilani is scheduled to address a plenary session and engage in a series of bilateral meetings with participating parliamentary leaders to discuss further Afghan FM Amir Khan Muttaqi meets head of Kuwait’s Al-Sayer Group and other regional cooperation initiatives.
