Maryam Nawaz Meets Xinjiang Leadership, Agrees to Expand Cooperation in Agriculture, Industry and Technology

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif held key meetings with the leadership and senior officials of China’s Xinjiang region during her four-day official visit to China, with discussions focusing on expanding cooperation between Punjab and Xinjiang in agriculture, irrigation, livestock, industry, minerals, technology, healthcare, economy and infrastructure.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived at Urumqi International Airport, where senior Chinese officials and diplomatic representatives warmly received the Punjab delegation.

During her meeting with Xinjiang Party Secretary Chen Xiujiang, the two sides agreed to promote partnership in several areas, particularly agriculture, irrigation and livestock.

The meeting also discussed cooperation in modern agricultural technologies, including advanced aerial vehicles for agricultural applications, modern water-leveling technology and digital crop monitoring systems.

Maryam Nawaz said Punjab is Pakistan’s largest agricultural province and that the provincial government wants to benefit from China’s experience and advanced technologies to increase agricultural productivity, improve water management and modernize farming practices.

In another meeting, the Punjab chief minister met Xinjiang Party Secretary and Political Commissar He Zhongyu. The two sides discussed expanding cooperation between Punjab and Xinjiang in agriculture, industry, technology, economy, healthcare and infrastructure.

They expressed a commitment to strengthen cooperation in efficient water use, modern agricultural technology, renewable energy and technical support for students.

Maryam Nawaz said Punjab wants to expand its partnership with China beyond agriculture and further develop cooperation in industry, minerals, new technologies, energy and other key sectors.

The meetings also focused on agricultural mechanization, modern irrigation systems, livestock development, mineral resources and the use of digital technologies.

The chief minister said China’s advanced agricultural technologies and expertise could play an important role in increasing agricultural productivity and improving the capacity of farmers in Punjab.

Several important meetings with the Xinjiang leadership, Chinese officials and representatives of relevant institutions are scheduled during Maryam Nawaz’s visit, with further discussions expected on new opportunities for bilateral cooperation and joint projects.
